“Jana
Sevana – Houses for 2000 families” the programme which
implemented under the Jana Sevana project of Mahinda
Chinthana concept were launched on 01st of March
2006.
The National
Housing Development Authority (NHDA) will implement this
programme under the guidance of Minister of Housing &
Construction, Mrs. Ferial Ashraff in all parts of the
country including North and East. Out of these 2000
families 1000 low-income families will receive Rs. 50,000/-
as a loan to construct their houses. Another 1000 poorest of
the poor families will receive Rs. 100,000/- to construct
their houses.
The
NHDA will provide the financial assistance and the technical
know-how for the construction of these houses with the
participatory approach of the house holders. The NHDA has
already identified the beneficiary families for the loan and
grant programme and 20 – 40 houses will construct as a
project in each of the district.
The government
has directly funded the 1000 houses loan programme and
Sevana Lottery has donated the required funds for the 1000
houses grant programme.
The NHDA has
targeted to complete Jana Sevana houses for 2000 families
within 03 months.
