forwarded by the President His Excellency Mahinda Rajapakse
during the presidential election period has included overall
development activities of Sri Lanka. This has been mainly
focussed on the overall development of villages where the
majority of people are living. When we implemented the Jana
Sevana programme based on Mahinda Chinthana has given
priority to the housing development activities in
villages.
It is targeted
to complete the accelerated housing development programme
within 90 days. But with the assistance of the village
householders, this has been completed within 60 days. This
programme can be pointed out as a success of combine effort
of various organizations and communities. The government
institutions such as NHDA has provided the financial and
technical assistance to construct these houses. The village
level political leadership has provided an exemplary
leadership for this programme. We can achieve success in
whatever development programme, if it is implemented
unitedly without any discrimination.
Whatever
development programmes implemented, it will not be success
unless there is a long lasting peace in this country. We
must give the fullest co-operation to President His
Excellency Mahinda Rajapakse for his peace effort and we
must help to find the peaceful solution for this national
