The
National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) is able to
secure assistance of various international non-governmental
organizations (INGOO) to provide housing facilities to 16,393
Tsunami displaced families during the year 2005.
Under this
programme, German Technical Co-operation (GTZ) has assisted
to construct houses for 1048 displaced families in
Batticaloa at a cost of Rs. 800 million. 400 housing units
at "Iqbal Nagar' in Trincomalee and "Hijra Nagar" in Ampara
districts were constructed with the assistance of Japan –
Sri Lanka Friendship Village (JSFV) at a cost of Rs. 220
million. 8187 Tsunami displaced families in Matara and
Trincomalee districts will be provided with houses under the
assistance of Swedish Development Co-operation at a cost of
Rs. 1112 million.
With this
programme 4684 housing units will be constructed in Matara
at a cost of Rs. 572 million. Another 3498 houses were
constructed in Trincomalee district at a cost of Rs. 540
million.
The KFW Bank of
Germany, a leading financial institution in Germany funded
the programme to is to be launched in Batticaloa district
and Kalmunai area to provide houses to 6600 Tsunami
displaced families at a cost of Rs. 1016 million.
Further in-situ
housing "Siyathena Niwasa" programme launched in Matara
district to provide houses to the Tsunami victims were
sponsored by Padova City Council, Italy and "Life Net" –
USA.

INGOO were spent 25 million to construct 40 houses in Matara
district. Measures have been taken to launch a programme at
Dikwella, Matara with the assistance of GOAL International
Institution at a cost of Rs. 60 million and 80 houses will
construct under this programme.
Rs.
3342 million were spent by the above INGOO to construct
16393 houses to Tsunami affected families in all parts of
the country including North and East. The NHDA has provided
all the technical assistance, co-ordination and selections
of beneficiaries for this programme.
