
The Housing
Development Programme of Pallimunai, Mannar implemented by
the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) under the
“Uthuru Wasanthaya National Programme” has completed within
100 days.
50 displaced
fisheries families lived in temporary huts have been
selected for this housing project. The NHDA who has
implemented this project has given Rs. 325,000/= as a grant
to construct each of these houses. The NHDA has given all
technical assistance to construct these houses and it has
been constructed with the assistance and the savings of the
beneficiary families.

The Government
provided plots of land containing in extent 10 perches for
each family and the house constructed is over 500 sq.ft.
The special feature of this housing project is that at least
a sum of Rs. 200,000/- has invested by the beneficiaries
from their savings. Roads, water, electricity, drains and
other infrastructure facilities were provided by the various
government institutions and other organizations with the
guidance of the District Secretary of Mannar. The NHDA says
that the Pallimunai Housing Project of Mannar constructed
under the “Uthuru Wasanthaya Housing Development Programme”
is scheduled to be opened as a fully pledged housing project
in November, 2009 by the Minister of Housing and Common
Amenities, Mrs. Ferial Ashraff and the Senior Presidential
Advisor and the Chairman of “Uthuru Wasanthaya National Co-ordinating
Committee” and Member of Parliament Mr. Basil Rajapakse.
