Saudi Charity Campaign of Government of Saudi Arabia has
initiated action to construct a housing scheme with 500 houses
for Tsunami affected families in Norocholai at Akkaraipattu,
Ampara.
On the request made
by Minister of Housing & Construction, Mrs. Ferial Ashraff,
Saudi Charity Campaign will construct this housing scheme at a
cost of Rs. 400 million.
The agreement
between the Saudi Charity Campaign and Reconstruction and
Development Agency (RADA) was signed at the Ministry of Housing
& Construction yesterday (02nd May) with the presence
of Minister of Housing & Construction, Mrs. Ferial Ashraff and
Saudi Arabian Ambassador of Sri Lanka, Mr. Mohamed Al Ali.
Mr. Yasef Bakhep
Rehiman has signed this agreement on behalf of the Saudi Charity
Campaign and Mrs. Shanthi Fernando, Member of Board of
Management of RADA has signed this agreement on behalf of the
Government of Sri Lanka.
After
signing of this agreement, Minister Mrs. Ferial Ashraff on this
occasion said “I represent the Ampara district which is the most
affected by the Tsunami. We are now receiving the much needed
foreign aid and assistance for reconstruction. We are engaged in
resolving the problems related to finding of suitable lands for
re-settlement of displaced families and other reconstruction
work. In this background we are very appreciative of the timely
donation granted by the Government of Saudi Arabia.”
Mr. Mohamed Al Ali,
the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia on this occasion said ”Sri Lanka
and Saudi Arabia enjoy a long standing friendship under the
guidance of King of Saudi Arabia. Our government and people of
Saudi Arabia provided relief to Sri Lankan Tsunami victims.
Presently we are engaged the Tsunami assisted programmes in
Trinco, Galle and Hambantota. It is with great pleasure that we
contribute financial assistance to construct new houses for
affected families in Ampara district.”
Chairman of National
Housing Development Authority, Mr. Mohamed Rafeek, Chairman of
Housing Development Finance Corporation Bank, Mr. S.M.M.Yaseen
and senior officials of the Ministry of Housing & Construction
participated in this event.
