Construction
work of the new district office building of National Housing
Development Authority ( NHDA) Batticaloa were inaugurated by
General Manager Mr Wasantha Wijerathna of NHDA recently ( 30th
May) at Klladi Batticaloa Cost of this construction work for
this project is Rs 10 million and financial assistance for this
construction activities will be given by German Technical
Co-operation (GTZ).
The construction work
of this building will be completed within 04 months and it is
expected to inaugurate the new building with the commemoration
of the World Habitat Day 2008 which will be held on 06th
October 2008.
The foundation stone
of this new building were laid by the General Manager Mr.
Wasantha Wijeratne and Regional Engineer of GTZ, Batticaloa.
A
ddressing
the above ceremony Mr. Wasantha Wijeratne said “The government
has given priority for the development activities in Eastern
Province under the ‘Negenahira Navodaya’ programme. Housing
development programme of Eastern Province is one of the main
activities of ‘Negenahira Navodaya’ development programme.
Within the year 2008, 3000 houses to be constructed in entire
Eastern Province and 1000 houses will be constructed in
Batticaloa district itself. The housing development programme
in Eastern Province were implemented by the government with the
sufficient contribution of NGOs and other organizations.”
Deputy General
Manager of NHDA Mr. L.S. Palansuriya, Batticaloa District
Manager Mr. K. Jeganathan also spoke at this function.
Assistant General Manager of NHDA Mr. Dammika Gunawardena,
Ampara District Manager Mr. J.N. Jeyachandran, Kalmunai Senior
Manager Mr. N. Sivapathasundaram and officials of the Batticaloa
District Office and District Secretariat participated in this
function.
