Scattered Housing Programme

Introduction

The objective of this programme is to process the partly constructed houses to the completion level and it has being designed to be implemented in all divisional secretary divisions in the island.

Target Beneficiaries

Families who are incapable of reaching the completion level of houses that have been partly constructed.

Objective of Awarding Loans

This loan is issued for upgrading of houses.

       Definition of Upgrading Houses

  • To convert the houses with minimum of a completed roof into safe houses with fixed windows, cemented floor and plastered walls.

  • The implication of a minimal completed, safe house is a house with plastered external walls of front and two sides, plastered and cemented living room, fixed front and back doors with frames, one plastered and cemented bed room with fixed windows with frames and other windows with frames and grills and a cemented kitchen.

  • Loans are granted to extend the already constructed houses of less than 600 sq. ft. (This does not include tiling of the floor, construction of bathrooms, colour washing of houses and fixing of pantry cupboards)

Approval of the Loan and Issuance of Installments

1. A sum of Rs. 100,000.00 is issued with an annual interest of 5% to be recovered in maximum of 10-15 years to those who earn a maximum of Rs. 25,000.00 a month. The beneficiary should add at least 50% of additional contribution of the amount of loan approved. This contribution can be in the means of materials, labour etc.

   2. Issuance of Loan Installments

(a) The first installment is Rs. 30,000.00.  30% of the amount of loan approved is issued in this stage and in order to obtain this sum, it is necessary to allocate 50% of this installment that means a minimum of Rs. 15,000.00 worth materials required for the proposed work (Contribution of the beneficiary).

(b) The second installment is Rs. 50,000.00 and 50% of the approved loan amount will be released. In order to obtain this sum, 50% of the value of this installment that means a minimum of Rs. 25,000.00 worth materials required for the proposed work (Contribution of the beneficiary) should be allocated.

(c) The third installment is Rs. 20,000.00.  20% of the approved loan amount is issued in this stage and in order to obtain this sum, it is necessary to allocate 20% of this installment that means a minimum of Rs. 10,000.00 worth materials required for the proposed work (Contribution of the beneficiary).

For further clarifications please contact the relevant district office of National Housing Development Authority for which the house to be constructed belongs to or the Housing Development Division of the Head Office.
