The 49th model village, “Siwdevigama” at Maharekma in Kalutara District was vested in the public with the auspices of the Minister of Housing and Construction Hon. Sajith Premadasa on 15th March, 2018. This consists of 39 housing units, water and electricity facilities, internal roads and an access road.
The 48th model village, “Helasihagama” at Kithulkote, Wellawaya in Monaragala District was vested in the public with the auspices of the Minister of Housing and Construction Hon. Sajith Premadasa on 08th March, 2018. This consists of 22 housing units, water and electricity facilities, internal roads and an access road.
Asian bodybuilding champion Lucian Pushparaj was presented with a house worth Rs. 4.2 million by Housing and Construction Minister Sajith Premadasa.
6th Bureau meeting of Asian Pacific Ministerial Conference on Housing and Urban Development (APMCHUD) in conjunction with the World Urban Forum was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 08th February 2018. Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of State of Housing and Urban Affairs in India chaired the Bureau meeting which represented Cabinet Ministers, State Ministers, Secretaries to the Ministries, senior officials and the representatives of international organizations who participated from the Asia Pacific countries. Mr. R.M. Abeyratne Secretary to the Ministry of Housing & Construction of Sri Lanka has led the Sri Lankan delegation for this meeting.
Sri Lankan delegation has made a special presentation on basic services including energy and mobility for integrated and inclusive development with the representation of Sri Lanka.
Mr. R.M. Abeyratne, Secretary to the Ministry of Housing & Construction of Sri Lanka who addressed the Bureau meeting said " The Sri Lankan government of His Excellency Mithripala Sirisena and the Prime Minister Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe has launched multi – faceted program of balance development identifying housing and management of urban growth as key areas of focus."
Addressing the Bureau meeting he further said " At present a major initiative taken by Sri Lanka, is revising the National Housing Policy in the year 2017, in collaboration with the UN Habitat, in keeping with the guidelines of the New Urban Agenda and Sustainable Development Goal No. 11.
The Ministry of Housing and Construction under the spearheading of the Hon. Sajith Premadasa, Minister of Housing and Construction, has been tasked with the responsibility for ensuring 'Shelter for All'. The national shelter program, which has been structured to realize this task will be further, expanded towards the alleviation of rural sector poverty through livelihood improvement combined with the provision of shelter."
All representing countries who participated in this Bureau meeting have made special presentations on their own countries and they have been discussed various shelter and urban issues relevant to their countries and the region.
9th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF 9) is one of the worlds premier conference on urban issues was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 08th to 13th February. More that 150 countries, international organizations and local organizations were represented in this conference and there participation was exceeded more than 1600 local and foreign delegates.
Prime Minister of Malaysia, His Excellency Najib Razak inaugurated the World Urban Forum. Prince of Wales, Mr. Charles has made a special statement at the inauguration ceremony. With the guidance of Executive Director of UN Habitat, Mrs. Dato Maimunah Mohd Sharif, United Nations Human Settlements Programme has organized this Forum.
Secretary to the Ministry of Housing & Construction of Sri Lanka, Mr. R.M. Abeyratne led the Sri Lankan delegation for this International Forum. Chairman of National Housing Development Authority, Mr. L.S. Palansuriya, Chairman of Urban Development Authority, Dr. Jagath Munasinghe were participated as the delegates of the Sri Lankan delegation.
Staff of National Housing Development Authority commenced work in the New Year, 2018 after a prith chanting and enjoying the treat of Welfare Society of NHDA. At the occasion, Snr. Advisor, Chairman, Vice Chairman, Working Director and General Manager of NHDA extended their New Year wishes for the staff.

The 47th model village, “Sithujayagama” at Meegahajandura, Sooriyawewa in Hambantota District was vested in the public with the auspices of the Minister of Housing and Construction Hon. Sajith Premadasa on 17th November, 2017. This consists of 26 housing units, water and electricity facilities, internal roads and an access road.
A special programme for granting of Semata Sevana Scattered Housing Loan for 800 low income families at Shalawa in Avissawella under Semata Sevana Scattered Housing Loan programme, granting of “Sonduru Piyasa” housing loan for 500 low income families in Colombo district and granting of housing titles for 1000 housing recipients in Colombo district was held at Temple Trees on 13.11.2017 at 4.00 p.m. under the patronage of Hon.Premier, Ranil Wickramasinghe.
Hon.Sajith Premadasa, the Minister of Housing and Construction, Hon.Indika Bandaranayake, Deputy Minister, Hon.Daya Gamage, the Minister of Primary Industries and the Secretary to the Ministry of Housing and Construction, the Chairman and the General Manager of the National Housing Development Authority including public officials participated in this occasion.
