NEW HOUSE FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENT, STUDIED UNDER A ELECTRIC BULB IN A POULTRY SHED

Inoka Ruwanthi Gamage has never received paternal affection in her life.  She has left her mother at the age of seven and had spent her childhood days in a childrens’ home in Anuradhapura Town leaving her home town Padikaramaduwa, in Galenbindunuwewa.  After 10 years,  Inoka had returned to her native village with her younger brother and had lived in a dilapidated hut   undergoing various difficulties with her brother.

Inoka had done her studies with the light of a electric bulb of a nearby poultry shed of a livestock farm without sleep at night. She has excelled in GCE (O/L) Examination and has passed GCE(A.L) Examination with A passes for all subjects offered in commerce stream.  Today she is a student at university of Sri Jayawardenepura,  reading for Hon. degree in Estate Management.

In the year 2008,  on Womens’ Day Sanasa Bank had offered her a scholarship and it was offered to her by the Minister of Housing and Common Amenities, Mrs.Ferial Ashraff.  In response to the request made by Inoka at this occasion, Minister Ferial Ashraff instructed the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) to construct a permanent house for her with the contributions from Sevana Fund and to complete construction work within a short period of time.  NHDA was able to build this house worth nearly Rs.500,000/=, spending Rs.200,000/=.  Minister of Nation Building and Infrastructure Development Mr.S.M.Chandrasena handed-over the ownership of the house to Inoka Ruwanthi,  mother and her brother on 25th October.  The General Manager, Mr.Sagara Palansuriya representing NHDA, participated at this occasion.

Mr.Chandrasena expressing his views  said “We should appreciate the example shown to us by the courageous child Inoka who stirred her life for the future betterment undergoing various difficulties throughout her life.  I have no doubt that Inoka endowed with self-reliance by her birth will do a fruitful service to the country in future.  This courageous daughter is an example not only to the Rajarata but also to the whole country.  Our gratitude should go to the Minister of Housing and Common Amenities,  Mrs.Ferial Ashraff for providing ownership of a permanent house for her.  The furniture and the other utensils required for her home will be provided to her shortly.  As a gesture to her sheer courage Ms.Inoka Ruwanthi will be offered a suitable job on her graduation.  The General Manager of the NHDA,  Mr.Sagara Palansuriya,  Divisional Secretary, Galenbindunuwewa,  Mr.P.B.L.Gunaratne,  and Senior District Manager of NHDA Mr.R.Gunapala,  too addressed the gathering.
