‘All parties must contribute to meet development challenge’
After overcoming the challenge of terrorism which lasted for over three decades, there is another challenge for Sri Lanka. That is the development challenge. All parties in the country have certain roles to play in this development challenge, said Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa.
The minister was addressing the distribution ceremony of financial donations held at the Siridharmarama Temple in Nugegoda, recently.

The ministry had implemented a housing programme named Sasunen Sewana under the Janasewana housing programme to mark the 2600th Sambuddhathva Jayanthiya.
The ministry has also provided financial donations for housing to 75 Dayaka Sabha families of temples in the Colombo district under the national housing programme to mark President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s sixth anniversary of assuming office. Accordingly Rs. 7.5 million had been distributed among 75 families.
“Since ancient times we have lived according to the decisions made by the Sambuddha Sasana. Our life styles, hopes, wishes and attitudes have been nourished by the disciplines of Buddhism. In the future too we cannot think about the society’s well-being without the Buddha Sasana.
The Sasana has provided correct guidance to the society every time. Thus, Sri Lanka has become a leading country in South Asia,” the minister said.
Sri Lanka has defeated several challenges in previous years and the country had begun to march forward with new challenges.
Sri Lanka is facing these challenges successfully and Sri Lanka has become a proud nation,he added.
Sri Lanka Sasanarakshaka Bala Mandalaya Chief Registrar Gonaduwe Gunananda thera said this is one of the most important programmes which had been implemented to mark the 2600th Sambuddathva Jayanthiya. Construction of these houses will be carried out under the inspection of Chief Incumbents of temples.
