Islandwide Celebration of World Habitat Day Sri Lanka

United Nations has declared first Monday of the month of October of each year as “World Habitat Day”.  This year the World Habitat Day was celebrated on 05^th October under the theme “Planning our Urban Future”  by countries all over the world including Sri Lanka.  The World Habitat Day Development Programme was launched in Sri Lanka in parallel to this programme.

HOUSING FACILITIES FOR 5000 TSUNAMI DISPLACED FAMILIES IN AMPARA DISTRICT AND CONSTRUCTION OF 3000 HOUSES STILL PROGRESSING

This was said by the Minister of Housing and Common Amenities, Mrs.Ferial Ashraff recently on her inspection tour on the tsunami housing development activities at Maradamuneyi Kalmune, Periya Nilaweli, and Nindavur areas.

RANAVIRU HOUSING PROGRAMME COMMENCED

NHDA has implemented an island wide programme to provide housing facilities to Ranaviru families living in various parts of the country with the guidance Minister of Housing and Common Amenities Mrs. Ferial Ashraff.

“UTHURU WASANTHAYA” ACCELERATED HOUSING PROGRAMME COMMENCED IN MANNAR DISTRICT

The proposed new housing development programme of the NHDA to be implemented in North under the “Uthuru Wasanthaya” 180 days accelerated development programme was commenced on 24^th June, in Pallimune village in Mannar district with the initiation of Mr.Nicholes Pillei, District Secretary, Mannar.

PERMANENT SHELTER FOR VEDDA COMMUNITY IN HENNANIGALA – DEHIATTAKANDIYA

The new housing scheme which built to the Vedda community (Ancestor) by the National Housing Development Authority in Hennanigala of Dehiattakandiya DS Division in Ampara district were ceremonially opened by Minister of Housing & Common Amenities, Mrs. Ferial Ashraff recently (20^th June 2009).

588 HOUSES WERE CONSTRUCTED AT A COST OF RS. 86 MILLION IN THREATENED VILLAGES

Housing programme for threatened villages (Boundary Villages) implemented under the “Jathika Saviya” Programme by the National Housing Development Authority in the villages in Anuradhapura, Trincomalee and Monaragala Districts which has often been faced by terrorists attacks has been successfully completed.
