Ayubowan! and Welcome to the web site of National Housing Development Authority (NHDA). We are stepping in to the new year of 2011 with the pride that Sri Lanka has achieved a milestone which no country in the world has been able to achieve so far. That is defeating the ruthless terrorism of LTTE which plagued the country for the last three decades. During this period country went from bad to worse, destroying lives, destroying properties, destroying almost the entire nation. But fortunately for Sri Lanka his excellence the president Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksha, took over the reign of the government and steered the country towards peaceful environment by defeating the terrorism and the partisan people who tried to divide the country in to several pieces on ethnic basis. But his excellence the president without any fear and disregarding all the pressure exerted by international community and also the national anti government groups who were sympathetic to LTTE cause, gave leadership to the security forces to act in a humane manner but wipeout the terrorist from the face of the earth of the Sri Lanka. Fortunately for Sri Lanka we were able to do this and now the people are enjoying the fruits of peace with equal happiness and joy.

Now his excellence the president’s intention is  to provide the nation with the environment within which they can live peacefully and happily. This means certain basic amenities, such as housing, water supply, electricity etc and other infrastructure facilities should be available at affordable rates especially to lower and middle income groups.
 
One of the important items in this regards is providing the houses to the poor people in Sri Lanka. His excellence the president has entrusted this task to Hon. Minister Mr. Wimal Weerawansa who were also a key figure in his excellence’s fight against terrorism. Hon. Minister has taken this task with the intention of fulfilling his excellences vision. He has now taken upon himself to provide the housing facilities for poor, low and middle income people with the help of the government, international community, foreign investors, and the NGOs who are honestly trying to help Sri Lanka. In this regard Hon Minister Mr. Wimal Weerawansa, has targeted 1 Million houses to be completed under “Janasewana” program within the year of 2011. He has already put in to action, the master plan which will steer the ministry and the National Housing Development Authority with viable planning and implementation in order to achieve the target of the 1 Million houses which  will immensely ease the housing problem of low and middle income people.

His excellence the President is providing all the resources available within the government and giving able, support and encouragement to Hon. Minister Mr. Wimal Weerawansa in all aspects of the program. Hon Minister is doing his best urging all those under him to achieve this target and make this vision a reality.
