Help to develop houses for poor people
GRANT HOUSING PROGRAMME FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF SHELTERAbout 1.6 million families in our country are living without a permanent house. Provision of housing facilities to them is a great challenge to us. The Janasevana National Housing and Settlement Development Drive for one million housing is launched by the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) with the intention of facing this challenges. Under this programme "Kepakaru housing programme (foster housing programme) is initiated aimed at to construct houses for under privileged poor families or assist them to construct a permanent house. Under this progrmme assistance of external parties will be made available to construct houses for poor families who are economically not in a position to construct their own houses. With regard to this construction necessary technical guidelines and coordination will be provided by the NHDA.
The Method of implementation of Janasevana "Kepakaru Housing Programme" Selection of beneficiaries When a house or grant is provided
to a beneficiary family, the eligibility of such a family is confirmed through
the detailed information of respective divisional secretaries and Grama
Niladaris of each district.
The process of selection of
beneficiaries for grant is carried out with an accepted methodology. Under this method, number of the family
members, income, number of school attending children, the number of infant, and
the handicaps in the family are considered before selection. Further the details that, whether the family
have an own land to construct a house and present condition of existing house
are considered as well.
Technical assistance and guidelines The necessary technical
assistance, guidelines, instructions and supervision needed for the
construction activities of the houses as well as coordination of the programme
will be provided by the NHDA with free of charge How to take part in this programme
An institution or organization
can take part in this programme as a welfare project by providing financial or
material assistance to construct a house with their participation.
During the period of construction,
the contributors will be provided with opportunities to inspect the progress of
the construction. The method of provision of grant The financial and material
assistance can be made directly to the beneficiary family or families. Otherwise the material donation can be made
available to the family through NHDA.
Facilities have been made to credit the financial assistance to the fund created at the NHDA in this regard. Under this programme, at present a house is being
constructed for a poor family at Thaldiyawala at divisional secretary division
of Kaduwela with the financial assistance of some Sri Lankans live in
abroad. The donation for this programme
was made to the NHDA through a representative of the donor party. The progress of the construction work for
