
The National
Housing Development Authority has implemented an island wide
programme to provide housing facilities to Ranaviru families
living in various parts of the country with the guidance
Minister of Housing and Common Amenities Mrs. Ferial Ashraff.
Ocean View
Development Company Ltd. affiliated to the Ministry of
Housing and Common Amenities made a financial contribution
on 09th July at the Ministry for the proposed Phase – I of
the Ranaviru Housing Programme to be implemented in all
districts of the island. This occasion was graced by the
Minister of Housing and Common Amenities and Mr.Ithkhan
Mohamed the Managing Director of the Ocean View Development
Company Ltd. made a contribution of Rs. 1.5 Mln. and this
donation was accepted by Mr. A.I.Wickrama, Chairman of the
NHDA with the participation of General Manager of NHDA, Mr.
L.S. Palansuriya.
Selection of
suitable Ranaviru families for this programme will be done
by the District Housing Committee of each district headed by
the District Secretary. Houses will be built in proportion
to the donations received for this programme and a sum of
Rs:100,000/= will be granted for each house. In addition
financial assistance from outsiders and technical support
too will be given to prospective families. The low cost
building technology and the traditional methods of
construction will be used for constructing these houses.
Minister Mrs.
Freial Ashraff expressing her views at this occasion of
handing over of donations said that the soldiers were at the
forefront of ending the conflicts and bringing peace to us
ending three decades of conflicts and it’s our duty to pay
tribute to war heroes in what ever possible manner. The
Minister said that the Ministry of Housing & Common
Amenities pioneer in the field of housing will implement
this housing programme island widely through the NHDA. The
major objective of this Ranaviru Housing Programme is to
provide permanent houses for Ranaviru families who
sacrificed their lives to end the war.
The NHDA will
implement the Phase – I of this housing programme in the
districts of Colombo, Kalutara, Hambantota, Rathnapura,
Matale, Polonnaruwa, Monaragala, Ampara, Gampaha, Galle,
Kegalle, Kandy, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala and Badulla. NHDA
pointed out that the houses under Phase –I of this programme
will be completed within a period of 4 months. The rest of
the phases of this programme will be implemented utilizing
the future donations.
